Hello! I’m Emma, founder of Bluetick Studio & Design.

Whether it be knitting needles, a paint brush, a pencil, a needle and thread, or even a computer mouse, my hands are always creating something.

While one would think that someone like that was always bound for a creative career, I avoided it for quite awhile. After some time in the International Development Program at Carleton University, my need for creativity and variation in my day to day life became too evident to ignore. A few months later, I found myself sitting in my first day of orientation for the Interior Decorating Program at Algonquin College. It did not take long to discover that this was the career I wanted to pursue. After graduating with Honours and an Award of Excellence from the program, I got my start in the industry and the rest is history.

One of my favourite quotes is “A designer is a planner with an aesthetic sense”. Anyone who knows me knows that quote sums me up almost perfectly. I believe that the happiest people know their own strengths and use them to enhance the lives of others. My eye for design and ability to organize and plan, leads clients through a smooth and comfortable process, leaving them with a fresh space curated uniquely for them.

One of my favourite questions I get is, “What does the bluetick in Bluetick Studio & Design mean?”. People who know me well know my rescue dog, Brantley, is almost always by my side. When I saw the cute little speckled Bluetick Coonhound round the corner of the humane society hallway I knew he was coming home with me. When it came to picking a name for my business, Bluetick Studio & Design came quite naturally. Brantley has a deep navy mottled coat with tan specks and big black patches. While he is beautiful to look at, his colouring serves to help him camouflage when he is on the neighbourhood prowl for rabbits and squirrels. He is one of the most intricately designed things I have ever seen. Six years later I still find new speckles on him most days. I believe good design, and good designers, should leave you with a space that is functional, beautiful, and leaves you noticing all the little details for years to come.
