An Update and Introducing the Blog!

It has been a wild few months to put it lightly. It is hard to even know where to begin, but I guess we will start in the summer of last year.

While I was hard at work on some decorating and design projects, I ended up attending the wedding of my two friends. Throughout the days leading up the wedding, I ended up assisting in some last minute decorating, tablescapes, and layout changes leading up to the day and on the day of. In the back of my mind as I was running around and helping, I had an old itch reemerge.

When I finished my design schooling a few years ago, I had always had an interest in going back to school for event planning/design. But then I graduated, fell in love with interior decorating and got a wonderful job working for a lovely designer (anyone in the Ottawa area, check out KKI Designs Co.) right out of school. Very quickly, that dream faded into the background and I jumped into the world of interiors.

In the weeks following the wedding last summer, I started researching event planning programs. The old dream had reemerged full force, and I was having a hard time ignoring it. Within a few weeks, I had applied for an event planning program, got accepted, and decided to go for it!

Throughout the course of this past year, I completed an Event Planning/Management graduate course from a Toronto college. Full-time studies (7 courses a semester was a little rough some days) and working on design projects from Bluetick equalled many early mornings, late nights, and lots of colour coding in my calendar. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.

From last summer to now, there have been lots of ups and downs on top of full-time studies.

Last year, I experienced a near month-long “forced” break when I got a brutal case of shingles (all over the right side of my head/face, I will spare you the photos). Losing use of my eye due to severe swelling and ending up in the ER was a scary experience, but even now still dealing with some lingering effects, I am so grateful for the health I have on a daily basis. Moral of the story: chase your dreams, but remember to priortize your health, or one way or another, your body will force you to take a break. Lesson learned.

Thinking back to the past few months, there have also been so many exciting things! To having project installs and working on some really fun design projects, to going to Palm Beach, Florida this winter (a major highlight was attending the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, photos below, truly a designers DREAM), and of course, lots of time with my dog, Brantley (for anyone wondering, he is thriving and looking forward to summer at the lake).

There are so many big dreams and plans in the works for Bluetick Studio & Design and I am excited to share more of them in the coming weeks. One plan that has been in the works, has been the blog! Throughout this year, I have discovered there are so many pain points that many people struggle with in terms of design and decorating, and I am looking forward to using this platform to explore and provide some knowledge and advice. This is the first post of many!

Words truly cannot express how grateful and thankful I am from the support of family, friends, community, and of course, the wonderful clients I have had the opportunity to work with so far this past year.

I can’t wait to share more soon!
